EDIT: installation will take aprox 1,5 to 3 hours... so be patient  for those stucked there, here's braveheart post in this topic

DISCONECT YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION!! .e.g. disable local area connection in control panel....turn off router, modem, pull of network cable to router... (unfortunately all the time while you're playing this game you're without internet) 9.run file LaunchGTAIV.exe and wait to game load... do not sign to rockstar social club, click skip to this 10. when welcome / main screen loads go to start game 11. when asked to sign or register to msn live gaming account click yes and select new account - select offline account 12. play the game and enjoy... |

| Even though I've cursed the threadstarter every time the game wouldn't load, I'd love to take back all that you didn't hear (^.^) and give you a HUGE THANKS for uploading this. Okay, after 3 weeks of downloading and a week of trying to fix my REPACK 8.3GB download to get it to work, here's probably the main causes that people tend to overlook why RSGC will give you an error window, why it might not start at all, etc. (unfortunately, I haven't quite gotten EVERYTHING to work yet (though the game works, and I can save my progress), since for some reason, I HAVE to be connected to the net to actually play the game, as opposed to the first post which states you have to be disconnected... which is inconvenient for me to need the connection, but ah well) FIRST: The Download I'm guessing that this went fine, you might get a few CRC errors, but those are just small errors in the RAR archives during downloading. Just redownload the corrupted ones. SECOND: The Necessities Now, a lot of people overlook these. For starters, get your PC UP TO DATE. Enable that little thing we call Wind0ws Update and get those updates! For Vista users, get that SP1. For XP users, get that SP3. There's no deciding involved, you NEED this to run the game. Next, get the latest version of Games For Windows Live
Next, get NET Framework 3.5 SP1 AND Visual Studio 2008 AND Xlive Redistributable. You can use the ~230MB offline installer (bottom of the M$ page).
THIRD: Running The Game Depending on which crack you use, methods may differ. Though somehow, the FEDOR and RAZOR crack both need the same treatment with me (weird). If you're not using the repack, and you've downloaded the RAZOR crack, simply place the GTAlauncher.exe in the gamefolder. Personally, I went to Rockstar Games Social Club's website to register for an account. Doesn't need CD keys or anything. Then, when everything's installed and you've got an account, simply launch RSGC (Rockstar Games Social Club), login with the email and password you provided on the website to register for an account, then when you're logged in, open the GTAlauncher.exe program, a little CMD window will pop up, then it uses your internet connection to log you into Rockstar Games Social Club, the game will load seconds afterward in fullscreen. [if somebody could explain why I can't just turn off the net and let it load that way... cause when I don't have the net on, the GTA4 process in taskmanager exits as soon as I try to start the game and the RSGC pops up, indicating I'm not connected...] Next, just follow the steps and you'll be able to save games and play the game of course. I think that's about it. A few comments: The ISO does NOT need to be in the virtual drive. Personally, I've found that the RAZOR and FEDOR cracks work very well. I have not installed the patch, though. The game hasn't crashed once, and it's smooth enough. I haven't used any hotfixes or anything either. My ingame camera is not berserk and is stable. Personally, I actually had format my HD, reinstall XP, etc. because NET Framework 3.5 gave errors during installation. For reference: I get an average of 28fps C2Q 6600 @ 2.4ghz (the game is a real powermonger, and a Q6600 makes a world of difference compared to my E6600 I tried running it on) 2GB 667mhz RAM 8600GTS 256MB (in the game, it shows about 220MB video memory free, and the game needs about ~215 to run. MINIMUM. Increasing view distance, resolution and texture quality occupy more video memory. When you use more video memory than you have (possible) then it will give you empty texture patches all over your screen. To ensure you have the most possible video memory available, disable any themes, wallpapers, graphics card intensive background applications (like YODM3D, TopDesk, Windows Dreamscene, Sidebar, etc). My settings: Resolution 1280*1024 Texture Quality LOW Rendering Quality HIGHEST View Distance 1 (the 256mb video memory really bottlenecks me) Detail Distance 15 I know how much of a nuisance it must be to sit in front of your PC, trying to get that game to work, so I really hope I've helped most of you. This patch will fix these issues.
* A fix to the crash after legal screen that some German customers were reporting.
* Numerous improvements to the video editor: Smarter naming of videos, improved rendering quality, better fx during replays
* Fix to bowling while using certain sensitive mice
* Fix for ATI 1900 shadows
* Overall savings to memory
* Graphic improvements to particle systems and mirrors
* Multiplayer character settings are preserved
* Support for DirectInput controllers. Note: The current hack way of supporting these controllers may not work with the improved functionality. So we recommend you remove the hack before upgrading to the patch.
